Leukemia is a type of cancer where white blood cells grow and multiply in uncontrollable way, as these abnormal white blood cells invade tissues and blood. As a result, the bone marrow will stop producing the normal cells which leads to anemia.
Scientists did not reach to the exact cause behind this disease, but they believe that the chemicals and high rates of radiation and genetic disorders can contribute to infection.
They also believe that viruses can cause disease in laboratory animals. However; one rare type of virus causing this disease in humans, was found.
The infected person with Leukemia might be also infected with the enlargement of the spleen and liver with enlarged lymph nodes, which causes bleeding easily. As well as the disease leads to anemia.
There are also two types of the disease, one acute and one chronic, acute illness get worse and spread quickly in the event of failure to address quickly, and lead to the death of the patient within several months. The chronic leukemia develops slowly and can last several years.
Modern treatment that uses chemicals and radiation, blood transfusion to the patient, as well as transplants new bone marrow, will lead to healing, but in many cases that have been cured, white blood cells resume its abnormal growth and reproduction again.
