Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer arises from the tissues of the colon (the longest part of the large intestine) or rectum (last several inches of the large intestine before the anus).

Most of colorectal cancers arise of the colon and rectum in the sub mucosa (cancers that start in cells that manufacture and secrete mucus and other fluids).

One of the common symptoms associated with cancer of the colon and rectum is the change of bowel habits, and symptoms include:
• A change in bowel habits (diarrhea or constipation).
• Feeling that the bowel does not empty all contents.
• The existence of blood (either bright red or very dark) in the stool.
• Feeling gas pains or cramps frequently, or a feeling of fullness or bloating.
• Loss of weight without knowing the specific reason for that.
• Feeling very tired all the time
• Nausea or vomiting.

In most cases, these symptoms are not arising from cancer, as other health problems may cause some of these symptoms. It is also important to note that the early stages of cancer do not cause pain usually, and therefore, the person who feels such symptoms must see the doctor to be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.
